Phoenix Falls

| Labels: | Posted On Sunday, November 28, 2010

Phoenix has it's own version of Wildlife. Some people find it beautiful, some find it rather ugly. I grew up there, so there is a genuine fondness that I hold for it, and something about it just spells the word "Home" to me...

This is a nature preserve close to where I grew up. It's got lots of good wildlife in it, some gorgeous flowers and trees at the right times of the year. I'm not very good with flowers... but I did manage to capture this tree...

Holiday 2.0

Try some more snowy pictures on for size! We're still in the White Mountains of Arizona. Here is a close up of the frozen scrub that normally covers the ground up there...

Some baby pine trees. (Believe it or now, Arizona actually has the biggest Ponderosa Pine Tree forest in all of North America. It's got a little bit of everything!)

Bigger tree... and even bigger(er) sky!!

Let the Holidays Begin!!

So it's been a while since I've posted. But, while I have been very busy, I still have felt a longing to get some more photography up on the ol' blog. So with enough inspiration from wife.... here we go!!

This is Arizona - believe it or not - It's in the gorgeous area of the White Mountains and is absolutely pristine when covered with snow..... as opposed to still being pristine when....not...covered....in.....snow..... *ahem*

More to come!!

Military Vintage

| Labels: , | Posted On Sunday, July 11, 2010

I know that it's been a while since I've posted anything. Found some shots on a B/W roll of film from the military shoot that sat around for a while for I developed them. Some of the shots had turned out to be rather vintage. I was pleased. :-)

A Little Photoshop work

| Labels: , | Posted On Tuesday, March 16, 2010

So while I was doing the little photoshoot with the cadets in the last post, I got a shot that was pretty cool, but there were a few crucial errors that needed to be fixed.

Original Shot:

For the entire shoot, I had inadvertently left the ISO on 1600, so most of the shots were extremely grainy. Yes. Sad. But not unheard of in the life of a very amateur photographer.

The sky was already cloudy that day, and with the ISO cranked up to 1600, I had a LOT of light in the picture. I wanted to get rid of the white sky, and also throw something military in it. So I added an F-16 flying overhead with a smoke trail.

I then softened the picture to eliminate some of the ISO noise, and TADAAAAAA. A REAL picture. Not brilliant, but a significant improvement upon the first shot.

Final Shot:

While I was on this hike, I had the opportunity to take some good shots of my sister in-law. She's really fun! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. :-)

We'll close with this one. =)

Dessert....er....Desert.... :-P

| Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, February 11, 2010

I thought I would add to the hike pictures that I posted in the last one. For these ones thought, I had switched to B/W film. This will probably be the last B/W post of the "series" that I did. However, expect to see more B/W pictures in the future.

I love the majesty of the Arizona desert. I know it still sometimes looks like a nuclear testing site, but there are times when I still smile and remember that it is my home, where I grew up.

Happy Hikes!!

I love hiking. :-) It's got to be one of my favorite aspects of my marriage. My wife and I love to hike together. With groups, by ourselves, whatever. Quite a bit of our relationship history since we first met each other is centered around hikes.

I'd have to say this is one of my better landscape shots. I liked the contrast of shadow vs. light on the mountains, as well as the desert foreground.

More Canon Beach Pictures!! These shots were on a roll that didn't get developed until much later. A few turned out well, so I had to share.

All you girls can go "Awwwww..." At this one if you want. But I have to say, I am proud it came out as well as it did. It's not easy to get a good tripod shot with a 35mm.

Exploring tide pools...

Some misty clouds came in too. It felt almost like we were in another land...

This was not in Canon beach, but at my in-laws house on the back porch. This is their can Mixie. The focus is a little off, but I've been trying some new framing techniques so I thought I'd share.

Coastal neighborhoods are the best!

| Labels: | Posted On Sunday, January 17, 2010

This was a bunch of architecture I shot in Long Beach, CA. I've decided that coastal neighborhoods are some of the best places for creative photography. You'll find such a diverse array of creative architecture and exterior decor.

A Rusty Lamppost, with a decorative gate, vines, trees, and a limestone table in the background.

See if you can find the symbolism in this one... :P

Laying in the grass looking up at a tree. A very twisted tree at that...

A stone house.

Rustic.

Who has front porches and birdhouses any more? Seriously!
